RICHMOND, Va. – School is set to begin this week, which means the Virginia Commonwealth University cross country squads are on their marks and getting set to launch the 2010 campaign.
Under the direction of newly appointed Director of Cross Country Nicole Cook, the Rams will participate in six meets, three of which will be held in the confines of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
The Black & Gold kick off their season on Friday, September 10th when they travel up the I-64 to participate in the UVA Season Opener. Start time is set for 5:30 p.m.
Trips to Greensboro, N.C. and Bethlehem, Pa. are the only non-championship out-of-state meets for VCU, as the Rams wrap up their regular season with trips to the George Mason Invitational (Oct. 3rd) and the Virginia Invite (Oct. 10th).
VCU's season culminates with the CAA Championship meet, which is being held in Wilmington, N.C. this year, on Oct. 30th.
It will be Cook's first season with the Rams as the Petersburg, Va. native comes to the coaching ranks with quite a resume. She was a national champion, current record holder in the 800-meter and three-time All-American at the University of Tennessee, as well as spending several years at the professional track & field level.
