The short story: Senior outside hitter Vicky Giommarini recorded 21 kills Sunday as VCU overcome a slow start on the way to its 12th straight victory.

OPENING VOLLEY

  • Giommarini registered all 21 of her kills in the final three sets. She was held without a kill in the first set and committed three errors on five swings. The hit .414 the rest of the way. The Rome, Italy native spiked seven kills on nine attempts in the fourth set as VCU closed the door on the Billikens
  • Freshman libero Alyna Draper dug 22 balls for the Rams to lead a stout defensive effort
  • Junior opposite Gina Tuzzolo and sophomore outside hitter Paula Neciporuka provided 11 kills each for VCU. Tuzzolo was also credited with seven blocks
  • Junior Jasmin Sneed added six kills and seven blocks for the Black and Gold
  • Maya Taylor paced the Billikens with 12 kills

THE DIFFERENCE

  • VCU hit .305 in the match, including .333 and .444 in the third and fourth sets, respectively
  • The Rams outblocked Saint Louis 13-9 and held a 72-61 advantage in digs
  • VCU held Saint Louis to a .071 hitting percentage in the final two sets

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Senior middle blocker Tori Baldwin recorded six blocks Sunday and need two more to become the first VCU player to reach 500 for her career
  • VCU has won 27 straight matches against A-10 opponents
  • At 11-0 in league play, VCU needs one more win in its final three A-10 matches to clinch the conference's regular season title for the second straight year
