VCU’S MALONEY NAMED TO AVCA’S 30 UNDER 30

RICHMOND, Va.- After just two seasons at VCU, Assistant Coach Patrick Maloney has been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) "30 Under 30" list.

The annual "30 Under 30" list recognizes up-and-coming coaching talent at all levels of volleyball. Maloney, 27, was one of 12 Division I coaches among this year's honorees.

A Richmond native, Maloney joined Rogers' staff prior to the 2016 season. With his knowledge of the game, Maloney has been a factor in the development of All-Atlantic 10 Conference players Tori Baldwin, Alica Kandler, Rebekah Strange, Vicky Giommarini, Jasmin Sneed and Julia Adler. He also helped guide three Rams (Julia Adler, Jasmin Sneed, Vicky Giommarini) to All-Atlantic 10 selections in his first season at VCU. In 2017, Maloney helped the Rams to an outstanding 30-3 season that culminated with an Atlantic 10 Championship and the program's first NCAA berth since 2005.

Prior to VCU, Maloney served as a volunteer assistant for the Ohio State women's volleyball program. Maloney was also a standout on the George Mason men's volleyball team from 2010-2013.

According to AVCA, the "30 Under 30" awards were created in 2009 to honor up-and-coming coaching talent at all levels of the sport. To qualify for the award, nominees had to be 30 years old or younger in 2017.
