RICHMOND, Va. – The VCU Volleyball team isn't just winning matches these days. The Rams continue to haul in awards for their outstanding play. This week, it's sophomore outside hitter Vicky Giommarini (Rome, Italy), who has been named Atlantic 10 Conference Co-Player of the Week.
Giommarini earned the honor after leading the Black and Gold to three wins while averaging 4.10 kills and 2.30 digs per set, while hitting .357.
A native of Rome, Italy, Giommarini's win marks the seventh straight week in which a VCU player received an A-10 award. She is the fifth different Ram to win an A-10 citation this season.
Giommarini leads VCU in points (241.5) this season and is averaging 2.60 kills, 1.85 digs and 0.58 blocks per set. She was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team in 2016.
Behind Giommarini, VCU improved to 19-2 last week and pushed the Rams' win streak to 16 matches, the longest active unbeaten stretch in the country.
VCU and Giommarini return to action on Friday, Oct. 13 when they meet George Washington at 7 p.m. in Washington, D.C.
