VIRGINIA LOTTERY STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: GINA TUZZOLO

RICHMOND, Va. – VCU Volleyball freshman Gina Tuzzolo was named Virginia Lottery Student-Athlete of the Week for her performance in the team's match at Davidson on Saturday, Nov. 5.

Tuzzolo aided her team to a comeback victory against the Wildcats, coming out ahead 3-2 after being down two sets to one early on.

"We really had to play as a team," Tuzzolo said.  "We understood that was the time we needed to pull together."

Tuzzolo contributed a career high 11 kills with just four errors on 22 total attacks.  Defensively, she recorded two block assists.  Tuzzolo said she had no idea she had earned a career high until her mom texted her.  "She texted me saying 'that's as many kills as you've ever gotten before.'"

The Rams finish out their regular season this weekend with a match on Friday at Saint Louis and one on Sunday at Dayton.  "Hopefully we can prepare for the A-10 Championship and find some some good takeaways," Tuzzolo said of the team's upcoming matches.

The first round of the Atlantic 10 Volleyball Championship starts on Friday, Nov. 18 in St. Louis, Mo.

"The A-10 Championship should be a true indicator of how far we've come as a team and how hard we have worked all season."
