The short story: Freshman Gina Tuzzolo spiked four of her 11 kills in the decisive fifth set, and sophomore Julia Adler provided a match-high 17 kills to lead VCU past Davidson Saturday afternoon.
  • Adler buoyed the VCU offense all afternoon, piling up her 17 kills while hitting .536. She committed just two hitting errors on the day and added four blocks.
  • Tuzzolo hit .318 in the match and was one of four Rams to register double-digit kills.
  • Sophomore middle Tori Baldwin was a force as well. She swung on 13 kills and hit .522. She was also a contributor on six of VCU's 10 blocks on the day.
  • Three players recorded at least 13 digs for the Rams, including junior libero Rebekah Strange, who booked 15. Freshman setter Tyler Sroufe also dug 15 balls and set 33 assists.
  • Freshman middle Jasmin Sneed also impressed for the Black & Gold. She was credited with seven kills and four blocks.
  • Sabrina Shepherd kept Davidson in the hunt with 17 kills.
  • VCU outhit Davidson .304-.050 in the fifth set. The Rams closed the set with a 7-2 blitz, led by a pair of Tuzzolo kills, as well as block and a kill by Adler. Davidson managed just four kills in the fifth.
  • The Rams trailed 2-1 in the match, but stormed to leads of 7-2 and 12-6 in the fourth set as Baldwin and Tuzzolo heated up. Baldwin was nearly unstoppable in the frame, recording six kills on eight swings. Tuzzolo added four kills in eight tries and did not commit an error. The Rams hit .342 in the fourth on the way to a 25-22 equalizing win.
  • VCU outhit Davidson .302-.234 on the day and served up nine aces, including five by junior Alica Kandler.

VCU will hit the road for the final weekend of Atlantic 10 play next week. The Rams will head to Saint Louis on Friday, Nov. 11 for a 6 p.m. match before traveling to Dayton, where they'll close the regular season on Sunday, Nov. 13.
