The short story: Julia Adler and Alica Kandler combined for 20 kills and five blocks as VCU made short work of George Mason Friday night at the E.J. Wade Arena at the Stuart C. Siegel Center.

OPENING VOLLEY
  • Adler smacked 10 kills and hit .444 to lead an efficient VCU attack. She also provided four blocks defensively.
  • Kandler wasn't far behind, spiking 10 kills of her own.
  • Sophomore middle blocker Tori Baldwin produced kills on six of her 12 swings and was also party to five blocks.
  • VCU outhit the Patriots .302-.111.
  • Jordan Glass led all players with 11 kills for George Mason.
THE DIFFERENCE
  • There were few areas in which the Rams did not dominate. VCU outblocked Mason 10-3 and served up five aces in addition to its lopsided advantage in hitting percentage.
  • The Rams jumped all over the Patriots in the opening set. George Mason hit -.138 as VCU cruised to a 25-14 win.
  • The Patriots' best opportunity to pick up a set came in the second, when they knotted the frame up at 15-all. But George Mason was unable to take control. A double block by freshmen Jasmin Sneed and Gina Tuzzolo, followed by an ace from classmate Tyler Sroufe pushed the Rams in front 21-18. A short time later, a kill by Adler and another ace, this one by Madalon Simpson, kept the Patriots at arms length by a 23-19 margin.
