The short story: VCU took the teeth out of the Morgan State attack and junior Rebekah Strange recorded 17 digs on the way to a comfortable sweep of the Bears Saturday at the VCU Invitational.
 
OPENING VOLLEY
  • Behind Strange, VCU outdug the Bears 43-33 and held Morgan State to a .082 hitting percentage. The Bears produced just 22 kills in the match.
  • The Rams also served up a season-high 11 aces, including five from freshman defensive specialist Madalon Simpson.
  • Freshman Tyler Sroufe set 27 assists as the Rams hit .264. She also produced six digs.
  • Junior Alica Kandler and Vicky Giommarini blasted eight and seven kills, respectively, to bolster VCU offensively.
  • Freshman CeCe Madison also saw extended action and provided seven kills, eight digs and an ace.
  • Haley McClure fired seven kills for Morgan State.
THE DIFFERENCE
  • Morgan State couldn't find a way to get the ball to the floor against VCU's defenders. The Bears hit .111 in the first, and it got worse from there. In the second set, VCU held MSU to seven kills and a .030 hitting percentage. VCU dug 20 balls in that second frame, including seven by Strange and six from Madison.
  • VCU closed the door with authority, hitting .462 in the third set on the way to a 25-12 rout. The Rams committed just two attacking errors in the third.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • VCU has won a season-high four consecutive matches.
  • Strange has averaged 5.83 digs per set in two VCU Invitational contests.
