RAMS IMPRESSIVE IN WIN OVER FORMER CAA RIVAL DELAWARE

The short story: Sophomores Sahbria McLetchie and Julia Adler combined for 32 kills and freshman Jasmin Sneed recorded eight blocks in a VCU victory over Delaware Saturday at the FGCU Invitational.
 
OPENING VOLLEY
  • McLetchie shined for the second consecutive day. She fired 18 kills in 50 swings and hit .280 in the match. She added six blocks. Adler, meanwhile, hit .407 with 14 kills.
  • Sophomore middle Tori Baldwin hit .450 with 11 kills and registered six blocks.
  • Four Rams were credited with at least six blocks.
  • Junior libero Rebekah Strange collected 21 digs for VCU, which stymied the Blue Hens' attack. Delaware hit just .118 in the match.
  • VCU, which has won two straight, also served up six aces. Junior Alica Kandler was responsible for four of those.
  • Corey Perkins led Delaware with 13 kills.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • VCU jumped to a commanding 2-0 lead in the match after hitting .278 and .522 in the first and second sets, respectively. The Rams committed just one hitting error in the second frame.
  • Delaware prolonged the match when back-to-back kills by Perkins and Alexa Swan snapped a 27-all tie in the third set.
  • In the fourth, VCU rallied from 7-1 deficit. Three kills by Baldwin and a pair of VCU blocked keyed a 10-4 run that tied the set at 11-11. The Blue Hens pushed back in front 15-13, but watched as Adler and Baldwin combined for four kills during another 10-3 VCU blitz. The Rams eventually secured a 25-23 win.
