RICHMOND, Va. – VCU will meet 2015 NCAA Tournament qualifiers Louisville and Dayton and will host its own invitational as part of a competitive 2016 schedule, released Tuesday.
The Rams will kick off their 2016 campaign with their annual Black & Gold Scrimmage on Saturday, Aug. 20 at the Stuart C. Siegel Center. From there, VCU will head to Bowling Green Aug. 26-27 for its regular season opener. The Rams face a field that includes ACC stalwart Louisville, which reached the NCAA round of 32 last season and finished the year ranked 21st in the AVCA Coaches Top 25 Poll.
VCU will travel to Florida Gulf Coast Sept. 2-3, where the Rams will play three matches against a field that boasts former CAA rival Delaware. On Sept. 9-10 the Rams will play in the College of Charleston's fall tournament.
On Sept. 16-17, VCU will welcome Middle Tennessee State, Morgan State and Liberty to the Siegel Center for a weekend of volleyball.
The Rams kick off conference play on Sept. 24 when they host Davidson. Two dates with defending Atlantic 10 Champion Dayton are on the docket. VCU will host the Flyers at the Siegel Center on Oct. 14 and return the trip on Nov. 13, the final day of the regular season.
Saint Louis will host the A-10 Championship Nov. 18-20.
VCU finished 14-17 a year ago, including 8-6 in the A-10. The Rams return a core of youthful talent that includes A-10 All-Rookie selections Sahbria McLetchie and Tori Baldwin.
