  • Sophomore Rebekah Strange was credited with 24 digs to lead the VCU back line.
  • Rhode Island's Audrey Castro led all players with 23 kills, including six in the fifth set tiebreaker.
KEY MOMENTS
  • Castro produced four of Rhode Island's first six points in the fifth set with three kills and a block. Behind her effort Rhody pushed ahead 6-4 and never trailed again. VCU pulled within 11-8, but Castro blasted three kills down the stretch to give Rhode Island the 15-10 win.
  • VCU used a 12-5 burst early in the fourth set to send the match to a fifth set tiebreaker. With the score tied 3-3, VCU rode a combined fifth kills by Jones and McLetchie to an insurmountable 15-8 lead.
QUOTABLE
  • "We're just going to have to pass better. Rhode Island was aggressive in their game plan and if we don't pass better we can't get into our offense. But Kalah had another strong match for us, and we're excited to continue our season next week and play for a championship up at George Washington." – VCU Coach Jody Rogers.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • VCU will be the No. 5 seed in next weekend's Atlantic 10 Conference Championship.
  • The loss snaps VCU's six-match win streak against A-10 opponents.
  • Thompson needs just 23 assists to crack VCU's single-season top 10 list. She currently has 1,137 assists.
  • Jones current mark of 3.55 kills per set would rank fifth in school single-season history.
WHAT'S NEXT
  • Fifth-seeded VCU will take on fourth-seeded and host George Washington in the opening round of the A-10 Tournament on Friday, Nov. 20 at 5 p.m. in Washington, D.C. The Colonials topped VCU 3-2 in Richmond on Oct. 2.
