THE BASICS
  • Senior Janelle Sykes contributed nine kills and 10 blocks, while classmate Cecilia Aragao added 42 assists and 17 digs in VCU's first win of the season.
  • VCU rallied back for victories in three straight sets after dropping an epic 35-33 decision in the opening frame.
  • The Rams began their comeback in the second set when they held the Gauchos to a -.077 hitting percentage.
  • Overall, VCU limited UCSB to .120 hitting percentage for the match, while hitting .185.
  • Junior Kalah Jones provided a team-best 15 kills in the match for VCU, while freshman Mary Kilbane continued to cement herself on VCU's back row with 18 digs.

  • The Gauchos were VCU's third opponent this weekend listed in the AVCA Top 25 Poll. Colorado State came into the weekend ranked 18th, while Marquette and UC Santa Barbara both received votes in the preseason poll.
