RICHMOND, Va. – Tim Doyle will join the VCU Volleyball staff as assistant coach, Rams Head Coach Jody Rogers announced.
In addition to on-court coaching, Doyle will enhance VCU's video and data analysis programs, assemble scouting reports and will assist in team and individual player development. Doyle's hire completes Rogers' coaching staff ahead of the 2014 season and fills the vacancy created by the departure of Kyleigh Gerlach, who moved onto a career in the private sector.
"Tim brings a lot of on court instruction and fosters daily improvement among our players. His skills will help balance a great staff. We're a complete family now," Rogers said. "After the departure of Kyleigh, we needed somebody of her caliber. That's not easy, but we were fortunate to find somebody like Tim. He's already positively impacted our program and I'm excited to see what the future holds for him and our staff."
Doyle joins VCU following two years as a volunteer assistant coach with the Ohio State University men's volleyball program, where he specialized in using video and statistical data to construct the Buckeyes' scouting reports. Working under legendary Ohio State Coach Pete Hanson, Doyle helped the Buckeyes to a 19-8 mark in 2013.
"I'm very excited to join the coaching staff here at VCU," Doyle said. "Coach Rogers brings a tremendous amount of passion, experience, and knowledge to the game, so I'm eager to learn from her and hopefully contribute in a meaningful way to the program. The people, resources, and facilities here at VCU are terrific, and I know we're going to bring in top talent to help the team. I'm grateful Coach Rogers has given me this opportunity and I'm confident VCU Volleyball will continue to grow and develop on our way to the top!"
The Ohio native also served as the head coach of the Buckeye Valley High School girls volleyball program in 2013, where he led the team to the district semifinals. From 2011-2014, Doyle served as head coach of the Vanguard Volleyball Club's 16U Boys Regional squad. Doyle is also a veteran of numerous camps and volleyball clubs.
Doyle graduated Magna Cum Laude from Ohio State in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in Sport Leadership and Sport Humanities. He added a Master's in Workforce Development and Education from OSU in 2012.
