  • Sophomore Romana Kriskova blasted a match-high 16 kills and added 13 digs as VCU kept its NCAA Tournament hopes alive with a 3-1 victory over Mid-American Conference Champion Ohio Saturday night.
  • The win was VCU's best RPI victory of the season, as Ohio entered the match ranked 35th. The Rams, who are seeking their first NCAA Tournament bid since 2005, came into the day ranked 64th in RPI.
  • VCU's win Saturday is its sixth against the RPI top 100 this season and its second against the top 50.
  • Junior Amanda Love dug 18 balls for the Rams, who outdug the visitors from Athens 50-43.
  • Sophomore Kalah Jones added 12 kills for VCU, while freshman Nora Reed chipped in seven and hit .333. Freshman setter Kaitlyn LaMantia handed out 47 assists for VCU, which hit .277 in the match.
  • After hitting just .100 in the first set, the Rams hit .330 the rest of the way.


  • VCU got off to a slow start in the match, as Ohio hit .481 and rolled to a 25-13 win in the opening set.
  • In the second, the Rams led 10-9 when back-to-back Ohio attacking errors and a kill by Reed pushed the VCU lead to 13-9. A short time later, the Rams used consecutive kills by Saige Gallop and Uzoamaka Ibeh to extend their lead to an insurmountable 18-12 advantage.
  • In the third, with the set tied at 25-all, the Rams used an Ohio service error and a service ace by sophomore Sami Blaze to secure a 27-25 win.
  • In the fourth, the teams battled to an 11-all draw before the Rams erupted for a 9-1 rush, sparked by four Kriskova kills, to charge to a 20-12 lead the Bobcats could not overcome.
VCU will await the NCAA Tournament selection show on Sunday, Dec. 1 at 9:30 p.m. to learn its fate. The selection show will be broadcast on ESPNU.
