TALKING POINTS
  • Sophomores Romana Kriskova and Kalah Jones combined for 27 kills Friday night as VCU rolled to its fourth straight victory.
  • The Rams hit .235 for the match behind Jones' .471 mark and Kriskova's .308. Kriskova led all players with 16 kills.
  • VCU redshirt freshman Kaitlyn LaMantia made her first collegiate start Friday and directed the Rams' offense to the tune of 34 assists and three blocks.
  • The Rams frustrated the Colonials up front with nine blocks. Junior Janelle Sykes led the way with five block assists for VCU. Freshman Nora Reed also continues to block well in her rookie season. She supplied for blocks of her own.
  • In the face of that defensive front, George Washington struggled and hit just .104.
  • George Washington pushed the Rams to the limit in the first set and took a 22-21 lead at one point. But a pair of Uzomaka Ibeh kills and a Becca Cazares service ace kept the Colonials at bay as the Rams earned a 27-25 win.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • VCU has now won three straight matches over George Washington, dating back to last season, all via sweep.
  • With the victory the Rams moved to 3-0 in conference play for the first time in school history.  That does not account for the Sun Belt round-robin tournament format that existed until 1991.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Rams welcome preseason A-10 favorite and defending champion Dayton to the Verizon Wireless Arena on Sunday, Oct. 6 at 1 p.m. That contest will be a rematch of a Sept. 27 meeting between the two schools in Dayton, won 3-2 by VCU.
