RICHMOND, Va. – Following some of the best performances of their respective careers, VCU juniors Cecilia Aragao (Recife, Brazil) and Janelle Sykes (Clifton, Va.) received Atlantic 10 Conference weekly honors Monday.

Aragao was named the league's Player of the Week after a series of terrific all-around performances. The 5-foot-11 setter averaged 9.24 assists, 1.94 digs, 1.24 blocks and 1.06 kills, while hitting .311 as the Rams split four matches. Aragao posted her first career triple-double in the Rams' 3-2 win over Colgate on Sept. 20 when she handed out 40 assists, dug 11 balls and spiked 10 kills. She was also named All-Tournament at N.C. State's Courtyard Midtown Invitational as the Rams finished 1-2 in Raleigh, N.C.
Meanwhile, Sykes picked up her first A-10 weekly award. She was named the league's Defensive Player of the Week after she averaged 1.76 blocks per set in four matches. She supplied 11 blocks as VCU battled Wisconsin to five sets on Saturday, Sept. 21. Later that same evening, she provided 10 more blocks against N.C. State. Sykes leads the team with 1.38 blocks per set this season.

Aragao, Sykes and the rest of the VCU team will open conference play this weekend when the Rams meet defending A-10 Champion Dayton on Friday, Sept. 27.
