TALKING POINTS
  • VCU rolled to its third straight victory Friday – its second straight via a 3-0 sweep – as sophomores Romana Kriskova and Kalah Jones combined for 29 kills and 17 digs.
  • As she has for much of the season, Kriskova shined again on offense, hitting .375 with 17 kills.
  • Jones committed just two hitting errors in 22 swings and hit .455 with 12 kills. She also added nine digs and a pair of service aces for the Rams.
  • VCU kept Austin Peay at bay with 38 digs. The Governors hit just .165 on the day.
  • Also for the Rams, junior setter Cecilia Aragao added 29 assists as VCU hit .351, and sophomore Uzoamaka Ibeh turned in her second straight impressive performance with nine kills.
  • The Rams controlled the action for most of the day, but Austin Peay did threaten in the second set. The Governors staged a 5-0 blitz midway through the frame to take a 19-17 lead on VCU. But Jones and Kriskova sandwiched kills around an Aragao kill to reclaim the lead. Ibeh would later close the door on Austin Peay with a personal 3-0 run – two kills and an ace.
QUOTABLES FROM COACH ROGERS
  • "It was good. They executed and got it done in three."
  • "[Kriskova and Jones] are finishing. The other thing too is Nora Reed is taking away balls because she's quick, and Nora's doing that as a freshman."
  • "The passing is so much better. The ball control is getting better every game, and it's showing with the way they're putting the ball away."
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Kriskova has been difficult to stop this season. She's recorded at least 14 kills in all eight of VCU's matches and has hit better than .300 in four. She's averaging 4.81 kills per set this season.
  • After a slow start offensively this season, Ibeh has come on strong in Tennessee. The outside hitter is averaging 2.83 kills and hitting .323 in two matches at the Lady Vol Classic.
  • This was the first meeting between VCU and Austin Peay since 1998. The Rams are now 2-1 all-time against the Governors.
