NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Senior Kristin Boyd (Wilmington, N.C.) led Virginia Commonwealth University to a pair of sweeps last week. Her reward? An Atlantic 10 Conference Offensive Player of the Week Award.
Boyd picked up her first A-10 weekly honor Monday after hitting .429 in victories over Liberty and league foe Charlotte. She committed just three hitting errors in two matches and averaged 3.50 kills per set for the 16-3 Rams. Boyd also added 0.83 blocks per set.
The 6-foot-2 outside hitter blasted 11 kills and hit .556 in VCU's 3-0 victory over Liberty on Oct. 3. She followed that performance with 10 kills in 24 swings and two blocks on Saturday, Oct. 6 at Charlotte.
Boyd, who recently moved into third place on VCU's career kills list, is averaging a team-best 2.82 kills and is hitting .225 this season.
The Rams return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 9 when they head down I-64 to take on Norfolk State at 6 p.m.
