HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Playing in its fourth straight five-set match, VCU got 18 kills and six blocks from freshman middle blocker Martina Samadan and a double-double from senior Anett Farkas (15 kills, 13 digs) on the way to victory.
  • Samadan had four kills in five swings, as well as two blocks in a fifth set that featured 11 ties and three lead changes.
  • VCU hit .323 and .273 to win the second and third sets, respectively, to grab a 2-1 lead.
  •  Senior Jasmine Waters added 10 kills and three blocks, while sophomore setter Cecilia Aragao provided 54 assists, eight digs and five kills for the Rams.
  • Sophomore libero Amanda Love supplied 23 digs from the back row to lead a 69-59 VCU advantage in that category.
  • VCU out blocked ASU 9.5 to 4.0
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • VCU has won four straight matches by a 3-2 margin. The Rams won four matches of that variety all last season.
  • The Rams' 8-1 mark is its best start to a season since opening at 9-0 in 2000.
