RICHMOND, Va. – One of the linchpins of James Finley's VCU Volleyball program has been its commitment to serving the greater Richmond community. Recently, the Rams hosted "VCU Volleyball Fun Day" at Victory Christian Academy.

Members of the VCU Volleyball team visited with students at the academy, ages 4-10, and emphasized the importance of living a healthy, fit lifestyle. Each volleyball player was charged with introducing a group of youngsters to a game to play. Games rotated throughout the groups for about an hour.

Later, the team gave away posters and souvenir volleyballs and signed autographs. For Finley, it was another chance to give back to the community.

"What a great experience for each of us in the VCU Volleyball program," Finley, who has guided the VCU program since 2005, said. "To engage with each of these individuals was heartwarming experience. It was wonderful to see their faces light up as they participated in activities with our players and staff.  I believe we were blessed and touched more than the students.

"A special thanks goes out to Victory Christian Academy for allowing us to share the day in our community. It's so important for VCU Volleyball to have opportunities to give back to Richmond."
