RICHMOND, Va. – Virginia Commonwealth University sophomore Jasmine Waters (Landover, Md.) has been named All-East Region Honorable Mention by Cobra Magazine, the publication announced in its December 2010 issue.

Waters, who transferred from Temple University prior to the 2010 season, emerged as one of the premier middle blockers in the Colonial Athletic Association this year. In 27 matches, the 6-4 Waters averaged 0.99 blocks per set and hit .293 for the Rams. Waters also averaged 1.07 kills per set.
An Atlantic 10 All-Rookie selection in 2009, Waters hit her stride during conference play. Waters averaged 1.23 blocks per set in league matches, fourth best in the CAA, and hit .339.  On Sept. 25 against Hofstra, Waters recorded 13 total blocks. She logged at least four blocks in a match on 10 occasions. Waters also delivered 10 kills and hit .769 with seven blocks in a pivotal conference victory at James Madison on Oct. 15.
According to the publication, COBRA Magazine showcases the talents of black volleyball players. COBRA's goal is to tell inspiring stories of black volleyball players that show young African American players that they too have opportunities to thrive in the sport despite cultural differences and economic disadvantages.
