RICHMOND, Va. – Virginia Commonwealth University sophomore Marisa Low (Carlsbad, Calif.) was named the Colonial Athletic Association's Co-Defensive Player of the Week Monday, two days after she helped the Rams to a pair of 3-0 sweeps.
It's the second time this month that Low, a 5-5 libero, has received the honor. She was also Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 4.
In victories over UNC Wilmington and Georgia State, Low totaled 36 digs in six sets, an average of 6.0 per set. Low provided 21 digs in a 3-0 sweep of GSU on Friday at the Verizon Wireless Arena, her second consecutive 20-plus dig performance. Low added 15 more digs as VCU swept UNC Wilmington the following night.
A 2009 CAA All-Rookie Team selection, Low is averaging 3.89 digs per set this season. She has been outstanding in CAA play, averaging 4.81 digs per set, which ranks third in the league. Low's defense has allowed VCU to limit league opponents to a .138 hitting percentage, the second-best mark in the conference.
Low and the Rams (9-16, 7-2 CAA), currently second in the CAA behind Delaware, will take aim at Northeastern on Friday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. in Boston, Mass.
