CLEGG BLOCKS HER WAY INTO HISTORY, CAA DEFENSIVE HONOR

RICHMOND, Va. – Three days after she rewrote the record books, Virginia Commonwealth University senior Kelsie Clegg (Boise, Idaho) has been named the Colonial Athletic Association's Defensive Player of the Week.

On Friday, Oct. 15 during a 3-1 win at James Madison, Clegg recorded the 385th block of her career to become VCU's all-time leader. Clegg, who set the Rams' single-season mark in 2009, passed former teammate Ivana Rich, who established the record last season.

Clegg was outstanding in two Rams' victories over the weekend. At JMU, she hit .444 with 10 kills and registered six blocks. A day later, she spiked 10 more kills and added six blocks in a thrilling, five-set victory at first place George Mason. Clegg averaged 2.22 kills and 1.33 blocks per set, while hitting .326 for the weekend.

The 6-5 middle blocker has been tearing up CAA play. In seven conference matches, Clegg is hitting a league-best .406, while averaging 1.52 blocks and 1.96 kills per set. A second-team All-CAA selection in 2009, Clegg is hitting .313 and averaging 1.60 kills and 1.19 blocks per set overall.

Clegg and VCU will return to the courts on Friday, Oct. 22 when they host Georgia State at the Verizon Wireless Arena at 7 p.m.
