RAMS CLAIM TOP THREE SPOTS IN DISCUS AT COASTAL CAROLINA INVITE

Meet: Coastal Carolina Invitational (Day two of two)

The Short Story: Coming off their indoor conference championship win, VCU's women's team continued to find success at the Coastal Carolina Invitational. The Rams claimed the top three spots in discus and won two other events on the day.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • It was Richmond, Va. native Denise O'Rourke leading the way for VCU in the discus with her 46.27m mark. O'Rourke would be followed by sophomore Makayla McGowan, who's 45.81m mark was good enough for second place and a personal best. Behind McGowan was junior Camora Sanders coming in at third with a 42.36m mark.
  • Also winning her event was junior Ann Sheehy in the 400m hurdles. Sheehy's time was 1:03.70.
  • On top of her hurdles win, Sheehy led off for the first place finishing 4x400m relay team that also featured Kayla Smith, Kara Lyles, and Taylor Watkins. 3:51.36 was the winning squad's official time.
  • In the 400m run Ashley Greenlee earned second place in a field of 43. Greenlee ran a 57.76, a personal best for the junior.
  • Another Ram claiming second place was sophomore Amiaya Carey in the high jump. Carey cleared a height of 1.60m.
  • VCU's De'Nisha Smith and Daijona Revell placed second and fifth in the 100m hurdles, respectively. Each recorded a personal best time in the event.

VCU will host the 2018 Ram Invite on March 16 and 17 at Sports Backers Stadium. The Ram Invite is the lone home meet for VCU.
