VCU TAKES THIRD PLACE BEHIND STRONG THROWS AND JUMPS

The Short Story: After a month long break the Rams were back on the track today to compete in the Father Diamond Invitational meet in Fairfax, Va. VCU's women's squad took third place out of a field of seven schools.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • VCU was successful in their jumps throughout the meet. Junior Latrice Morris ended her day atop the competition clearing 5.48 meters in the long jump. In the triple jump freshmen Aliyah Newman and Metasebia Ermias claimed the first and second spots respectively. Newman jumped 11.84 meters while Ermias was 0.08 meters shy of that mark.
  • In the high jump senior Amiaya Carey claimed second place, clearing a height of 1.65 meters and matching her personal best.
  • The Rams also found themselves leading the pack in throws as sophomore Makayla McGowan grabbed first place in shot put with 13.90 meters. Junior Camora Sanders' 15.24-meter weight throw was good enough for second overall.
  • Senior Kathleen Gardner finished third in the one mile with a time of 5:19.58.
  • The women's 4x400 meter relay team outran everybody on their way to a first place finish. The Distance Medley and 4x800-meter relay teams each took second.
