The Short Story: The Rams found success in the hurdles, as Alliyah Stevens and Sakia Konin each achieved personal bests.  Latasha Williams and Makayla McGowan each secured top-five finishes in the shot put.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Stevens and Konin each achieved season bests in the 100-meter hurdles with times of 15.34 and 15.85 seconds, respectively.
  • Iman Lee set a season best in the 400-meter run with a time of 59.45 seconds.
  • Janelle Cheatham and Stevens each posted top five marks in the long jump with leaps of 5.22 and 5.15 meters, respectively.  Sakia Konin also leaped to mark of 5.15 meters.
  • Williams and McGowan placed second and third, respectively, in the shot put. Williams hit a mark of 13.85 meters while McGowan set a new personal record with a mark of 13.39 meters.
  • Samantha Yankson hit a personal record in the hammer throw, throwing to a mark of 46.99 meters. Yankson placed fourth in the event.
  • Erika Coleman achieved a top-10 Atlantic 10 time in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.52.

VCU heads to the George C. Griffin track in Atlanta, Georgia next Friday, April 21 and Saturday, April 22 to compete in the Georgia Tech Invitational.
