RICHMOND, Va.- After a record-breaking weekend at the Father Diamond Invitational at George Mason, junior Kiara Porter has been named Atlantic 10 Co-Athlete of the Week.

Porter blistered the track for a time of 1:13.54 in the 500-meters; her time broke the VCU school record of 1:14.89, which she previously held, and currently ranks first in the nation.

"Kiara doesn't run the 500 meters very often so she took the only opportunity she had and made the most of it. After a tough week of practice she willed her way to victory," Head Coach Jon Riley said. "She was in 2nd place after 400 meters and fought hard to take the lead. She doesn't surprise me anymore because she's a champion."

An All-American last year, Porter's win in the 500-meters got her off on the right track after posting 11 victories during the 2012-13 campaign.

Porter and the Rams continue their season on Saturday, January 18th at the Hampton University Invitational.
