VCU in Fifth Place After Day One of Atlantic 10 Championships

MEET: Atlantic 10 Championships – Kingston, R.I.

DAY 1 RESULTS

THE BASICS: The VCU Women's Track and Field team is in fifth place with 21.5 points after the first day of the Atlantic 10 Championships at the University of Rhode Island in Kingston, R.I. Dayton leads the event with 44 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • In the women's weight throw, junior Jaleesa Williams won the Atlantic 10 Championship with a personal-best toss of 17.29-meters. Jaleesa Williams fought through some early adversity, having fouled on two throws. Her sister, Jessica Williams placed fifth with a throw of 15.77-meters.
  • Junior Justine Dutton placed in seventh place in the pole vault with a 3.30-meter jump.
  • The Rams had two strong performances in the women's long jump. Freshman Carina Peter, who was not ranked in the long jump, placed third in the event with a 5.86-meter jump, and sophomore Sarah Fulgham placed seventh with a jump of 5.50-meters.
