RICHMOND, Va. - Winter is just around the corner and while for most it means snow and cold weather, for the VCU women's track & field squad that means the start of the indoor season. The Rams have been hitting the track hard this fall preparing to make a run at the CAA Championship in the spring.
Junior Theresa Trader has been a valuable talent in the hurdles for the Black & Gold and before she dove headfirst into the start of the winter season, VCU Athletic Communications Student Assistant Nan Turner caught up with her to find out a little more about the Purcellville, Va. native.
NT: What's your favorite thing about VCU?
TT: My favorite thing about VCU is how there is never a dull moment. No matter where you go you see something going on, whether it's an athletic, club, or just random student event.
NT: When you're no on the track, what do you like to do in your free time?
TT: Whenever I have time away from the track, and no studying to do, I like to draw or just relax with friends.
NT: If you could play on any other VCU sports team, which one would you choose? Why?
TT: I would definitely play soccer! I have played ever since I was 5 and just recently started running track, I still miss the game.
NT: Who has been the most influential person in your life? Why?
TT: Unoriginal I know, but my mom has been the most influential person in my life. We have always been so close and no matter what I do she is there supporting me 100%.
NT: What are you most looking forward to this season?
TT: Watching the whole team grow stronger and winning outdoor conference!
NT: What's your favorite and least favorite part of a meet day?
TT: My favorite part about a track meet is standing at the line right before a race, heart pounding, adrenaline rushing. My least favorite part is having to wake up extra early and sitting in an overcrowded van for hours, not my cup o'tea.
NT: What's something people would be surprised to know about you?
TT: I live on a horse farm and have a horse named Little Man. My friends call it Trader Farms.
NT: If you had to describe yourself in one word what would it be and why?
TT: Driven – when I set my mind on achieving something I do everything I can to succeed.
