TRACK & FIELD COACHING SCHOOL COMES TO RICHMOND

Cost:
$125 for pre-registration (Received by 10/8/10)
$ 150 for late and on-site registration. Level I Alumni may attend course for a fee of $65.

(1/2 of the registration free ($ 62.50) will be refunded after early registration deadline and no refunds will be given after the start date)

From October 22nd until 24th, Virginia Commonwealth University will host the USA Track and Field Level I Coaching Education School. This event will give youth, high school, college and club track & field and cross country coaches the opportunity to hone their coaching skills. Coaches of Adult Running Clubs and Triathlon coaches have the opportunity to earn 10 CEU's if already certified.

The camp is run by four experienced coaches from various track disciplines, including VCU's own Jon Riley. 

COACHING EDUCATION SCHOOL INTRUCTORS

Andrew Allden – School Director & Endurance Instructor

A Level I and II Certified Endurance Instructor, Andrew Allden bring 18 years of NCAA Division I cross country and track & field experience. Allden has coached over a dozen All-Americans and three Olympians. He also coached the 2001 NCAA Division I Men's 800 meter champion.

Jon Riley – Jumps Instructor

Coach Riley has been Head Coach of Women's Track and Field at Virginia Commonwealth University since 2008 and was also named Men's Head Coach in May 2010. He is Level III Certified in Jumps and Level II Certified in Sprints and Hurdles by USA Track and Field. His work at VCU has turned around the Women's program, which had its best conference championship performance in six years with a 4th place finish in the CAA Championships last season.

Loren Seagrove – Sprints & Hurdles Instructor

Loren Seagrove co-founded the Speed Dynamics and Velocity Sports Performance, two renowned training and development programs. Seagrove has worked with athletes from around the sports world, including 50 Olympic medal winners and 1st Round NFL Draft picks.

Mike Young – Throws Instructor

Mike Young is the Director of Sports Performance for Human Performance Consulting of Morrisville, North Carolina. His athletic development work at HPC has allowed him to work with athletes from the NFL, PGA and MLB. He is a Level III Certified instructor of Jumps, Sprints, and Throws.

LEVEL I INFORMATION

Details

  • USATF Coaching Education Level I program is a starting point for all track and field coaches. One of the objectives is to put all coaches on a common platform (i.e. speaking the same language).
  • The Level I program covers all events in a foundational manner by emphasizing fundamentals, rules, safety and risk management and instruction techniques. Level I certification prepares individuals to coach junior high school, high school, club and age group athletes
  • Level I Schools are two-and-a-half day courses (21-24 hours), including both classroom instruction and hands-on training. Attendance at all sessions is required
  • After the school, participants must complete an online exam that covers event-related and sport science subjects
  • Upon attending the school and passing the exam, participants will be issued a Level I Certification of Completion
