WITMUS AND DIAZ DELGADO TAKE DOUBLES FLIGHT TITLE AT HOKIE INVITE

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Sophomore Noumea Witmus and freshman Paola Exposito Diaz Delgado won the Maroon Doubles Flight title to highlight a successful weekend for VCU women's tennis at the Hokie Invite, hosted by Virginia Tech at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.

Witmus and Diaz Delgado breezed through their quarterfinal matchup, defeating Wofford's Curran Carver and Brittney Wilbur 8-0. They then took down Radford's Taylor Blalock and Drousile Dzeubou 7-5 in the semifinals, and Old Dominion's Louie McLelland and Adriana Rajkovic 6-2 in the final.

Freshmen Melissa Ifidzhen and Sofia Sualehe reached the finals of the Orange Doubles Flight, but fell to Holly Hutchinson and Yulia Starodubtseva of Old Dominion. They had previously beaten Marie-Louise Decamps and Julia Herlogsson of George Washington 8-7, and Victoria Olivarez and Nataliia Vlasova of ODU 7-6.

Witmus was one of three Rams to record multiple singles wins, reaching the final of the UT Prosim Flight with wins over Fallon Delp of Virginia Tech and Michaela Klushka of James Madison. Ifidzhen and freshman Marina Alcaide Bakari also picked up two singles wins over the weekend.

This tournament wraps up the fall season for VCU, which returns to play on Jan. 15 when it hosts Florida Atlantic to kick off the dual season.
