RICHMOND, Va. – After rolling to their second straight Atlantic 10 title and third conference championship in the past four years, the VCU women's tennis team will head south to the Chapel Hill regional for the first two rounds of the 2014 NCAA Tournament.
The Rams will take on seventh-ranked UNC in the first round, while Georgia State and Tennessee round out the rest of the regional. VCU and the Tar Heels will do battle at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 9 at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
VCU (12-9) closed the season strong, winning 10 of its final 14 matches en route to another NCAA Tournament berth. The Rams will be making their ninth straight and 15th overall NCAA Tournament appearance.
Leading the way for the Black & Gold is senior Cindy Chala and sophomore Yukako Noi, who both rank in the top-125 players in the country. Chala led the Rams with 22 wins on the year, including a 12-5 record this spring at the #1 spot in VCU's lineup. Noi has 16 wins on the year, six of which came against ranked opponents.
