RAMS DOMINATE PENN STATE IN 6-1 VICTORY

  • The Short Story: Five different Rams earned straight set victories as the VCU women's tennis team dominated visiting Penn State, 6-1. Senior Cindy Chala earned another straight set win to improve to 7-1 this spring and 16-3 overall on the year. Sophomores Yukako Noi and Olga Barscheuskaya picked up their second straight set victories of the weekend. Daria Yakauleva and Salome Kvitashvili also picked up singles wins on the afternoon.
How It Happened
  • VCU grabbed momentum from the start, quickly earning the doubles point behind Barscheuskaya and Yakauleva, who rolled to a 6-0 win at #1 doubles. Chala and freshman Ludivine Burguiere finished off the doubles with a 6-4 victory at the #2 doubles spot.
  • Noi pushed the Black & Gold's lead to 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Penn State's Carmen Sandor.
  • Yakauleva and Kvitashvili secured the win for the Rams with wins at #4 and #5 singles.
  • Chala pushed it to 5-0 with a 6-4, 6-3 win at the top singles spot.
  • After PSU picked up a point at #3 singles, Barscheuskaya finished off the day with a 7-5, 6-3 victory at the sixth singles position.
