RICHMOND, Va.—No matter what sport, you always want a statement win. VCU made that statement when they took down a member of the ACC in Wake Forest, winning 4-3.
The Rams saw nothing but success in doubles action on Sunday. Alena Gerasimova and Salome Kvitashvili started the day with a big 8-3 victory over Wake Forest's Ryann Cutillo and Karen Forman.
VCU clinched the doubles point when Ana Bara and Alex Bara defeated Kayla Duncan and Rebecca Siegler 8-5. The duo of Josefin Hjertquist and Daria Yakauleva won by default.
A default to give Salome Kvitashvili the win started the Rams off with a point in singles action. Olga Terteac gave the Rams another point with her victory at the fourth position, dispatching her opponent in two sets as she won 6-2, 6-4.
Not to be outdone, Gerasimova followed suit with a victory in two sets at the fifth position, 6-2, 6-3, clinching the day's win for the Rams.
VCU is now 10-4 on the season. The Rams will return to action Saturday, March 10 at 10 a.m. when Temple University comes to town.
