RICHMOND, Va.—CAA Player of the Week accolades are something to brag about. The VCU tennis program has a lot to brag about this week as the CAA recognized the exceptional play of members of both the men's and women's squad
On the men's side, sophomore Alejandro Argente collected CAA Men's Tennis Player of the Week honors after going a perfect 4-0 in both singles and doubles matches this past week. Matching up against Maryland, Argente paired up with Jaime Vazquez to earn an 8-6 win over Jesse Kiuru and Andy Magee before taking down Magee in singles action 6-4, 6-2.
When Louisiana-Lafayette came to Richmond, Argente worked with Vazquez again to topple Damian Farinola and Carl Alberton 8-2 before beating Farinola 6-4, 6-3 in singles.
Senior Alex Bara, nationally ranked #120 in singles, received CAA Women's Tennis Player of the Week after her wins in both singles and doubles competition at Virginia Tech. She began play with her sister, Ana Bara, as they took down Martha Blakely and Courtney Rauscher in an 8-5 victory. Alex then moved on to Isel Martinez-Marcos, who she dispatched 6-2, 6-4 at the second singles position. Her two wins on the day contributed to a 5-2 win for VCU against the Hokies.
Argente will look to continue his hot streak when Nebraska comes to Thalhimer Tennis Center on Sat., Feb. 25 at 11 a.m.
Bara will hit the road with the women's tennis team to face fourth-ranked Duke on Feb. 25.
