RICHMOND, Va. – Seasoned veteran and lone senior on the VCU women's tennis team, Kateryna Yergina, made it known that she means business in her final year with the Rams.
The Kiev, Ukranie native went 2-0 at the No. 1 singles position and 2-0 at the No. 1 doubles position last week earning her the title of CAA Women's Tennis Player of the Week.
She helped the Rams pick up victories over UT-Arlington and UMBC to move to 10-1 on the year.
"Kateryna is doing a good job of setting an example for a pretty young squad," Head Coach Paul Kostin said. "With her leading the way, the girls have a chance to be a very good squad as the season progresses."
On Friday against UT-Arlington, Yergina and doubles partner Alex Bara had an easy win at the No.1 doubles position, posting an 8-1 ledger.
She followed by earning the Rams a point with a defeat over UT-Arlington's Dainana Negreanu, 6-2, 6-4, in the top singles position.
