Graves earned the distinction as Offensive Player of the Week after recording 2 goals and an assist in wins over Dayton and Duquesne respectively. Sanderson was selected as Defensive Player of the Week after recording six total saves over the weekend.
A strong weekend for Graves opened with an assist on the Rams first goal against Dayton in the 13th minute. She followed that up by scoring a goal on a shot to the near post in the 84th minute of the same game to extend the lead to 3-0. Her stellar play continued on Sunday, when she scored the equalizer on a back-heel forcing the match into overtime. Graves has compiled 4 goals on the season, ranking inside the top-10 of the Atlantic 10 Conference and second on VCU's team.
Sanderson recorded her fifth clean sheet of the season in Thursday's 4-0 win over Dayton, making two saves. She followed that up by recording four saves in a double overtime victory against Duquesne. Her biggest save of the weekend came in the 97th minute of overtime in that game. Duquesne's Tori Kopchak fired a close range shot to the bottom right corner that Sanderson kept out of the net with a diving save. The save kept VCU alive in a game they would eventually win 2-1.
VCU has now won six matches in a row, including all four of their A-10 matches, bring them to 4-0 in conference play and 9-2 on the season overall.
Sanderson and Graves look to continue their solid play this season when the Rams welcome Davidson to Sports Backers Stadium this Thursday, Oct. 4.
