RICHMOND, Va. – Junior Maren Johansen was named Atlantic 10 Women's Soccer Co-Player of the week on Monday after helping VCU extend its unbeaten streak to five matches. It marks the second week in a row a Ram has earned the league's weekly honor.
Johansen played a key role in both of VCU's results over the weekend, finishing with two goals and an assist, including the game-winning score in a 5-1 come-from-behind victory at George Mason on Friday. In a non-conference match against the Patriots, she scored the game-winner in the 28th minute to put the Rams on top 2-1 before assisting on senior Courtney Conrad's tally in the 75th minute. Johansen then scored the Rams' only goal in a 1-1 draw against Elon on Sunday. Five of her seven shots during the weekend were on frame.
The Mosjoen, Norway native is currently tied with Conrad for a team-leading 11 points. Johansen and Conrad have each recorded four goals and three assists so far this season.
VCU, which is 4-0-1 in its last five matches, has outscored its opponents 14-3 during that stretch, while allowing just two goals in the last 420 minutes.
The Rams will ride their five-match unbeaten streak into A-10 play, which begins at UMass on Oct. 5 following a 12-day break.
