RICHMOND, Va. - Although soccer season doesn't officially begin until August, in the eyes of the Virginia Commonwealth University women's soccer team it is never too early to get a jump-start on practice.

"As a coaching staff, the spring season is the time we look forward to the most," Co-Head Coach Tiffany Roberts Sahaydak said. "It's the time we get to know our girls the best and really get to work on improving on a daily basis in all aspects of the game."

The Black & Gold will open up their spring season on March 10 at Sports Backers Stadium against in-state rival Longwood University. The last time these two teams met was last fall in the season opener for both squads, which resulted in a 2-1 win for VCU.

All but one starter is returning next year for the Rams. Last season, VCU said "goodbye" to lone senior Myriam Bouchard who was a stand out leader during her four years with the team. However, this young squad holds a lot of promise and will surely be entertaining to watch.

There will be four opportunities to catch the Rams in action this spring. So be sure to check the schedule and mark your calendars. All exhibition games will be held at Sports Backer Stadium and are open to the public with free admission.
