RICHMOND, Va. – VCU Lacrosse midfielder Sky Hyatt was named the Virginia Lottery Student-Athlete of the Week after leading the Rams in scoring last week and helping the second-year program to its first A-10 road victory at George Washington Saturday.
Against George Washington, Hyatt scored a game-high six goals for the Rams on 11 shots. She also added team-high four draw controls and two ground balls. She helped the Rams to a 15-13 victory.
The win at George Washington has already doubled the second-year program's victory total from last season and gave VCU its first conference road win. The young team has continued to improve dramatically under head coach Jen O'Brien.
"It's a really cool to see our team developing and to be a part of it, it's what I came here for. It means everything. I came to build myself as a person, to see our win totals increase and help to create a team from scratch. To see us win these games and get better means the world to me," Hyatt said.
On Thursday at Saint Joseph's, Hyatt led the Rams with a team-high five goals on nine shot attempts, dished out three assists and had five draw controls. The Rams led for a large majority of the game but lost 18-17 on a late goal from the Hawks.
