RAMS FALL TO 19TH-RANKED UMASS ON SENIOR DAY

The short story: Sky Hyatt added two goals to her team-leading total, but 19th-ranked UMass used a balanced attack to win its 11th straight match Sunday at Cary Street Field.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Sunday's contest was VCU's first against a ranked foe, and UMass proved to be as good as advertised.
  • The Minutewomen's Callie Santos and Eileen McDonald each scored four times to lead UMass' 40-shot attack.
  • Overall, the Minutewomen outshot the Rams 40-11 and were plus-8 in turnovers.
  • UMass opened with a pair of goals in the first three minutes, but VCU's Blaire Langeler scored off a Molly Barcikowski feed at the 25:39 mark to pull the Rams within 2-1.
  • The Minutewomen responded with seven unanswered goals to take a commanding 9-2 advantage.
  • Hyatt kept the Rams in the contest with a pair of unassisted scores late in the period.
OFF THE DRAW
  • Prior to the match, VCU honored seniors Bonnie Corrigan and Zohra Allen. Sunday was the Rams' final home contest of the season.
  • Defensively, Morgan Hoff scooped up three ground balls and caused a turnover for the Rams.
  • Ria Peralta turned away 11 shots in goal for VCU.
  • Hyatt now has 39 goals this season. She scored five goals in two matches this weekend. She ranks seventh in the A-10 in goals per game.
  • Five UMass players scored at least two goals in the game.
