VCU FALLS AT GEORGE WASHINGTON 80-62

THE BASICS
  • Freshman Keira Robinson provided 12 points, six assists and five rebounds for VCU, which fell to George Washington Thursday night in Foggy Bottom.
  • Senior Robyn Parks also managed her ninth double-double of the season with 13 points and 14 rebounds for the Rams.
  • George Washington used a 25-2 run midway through the first half that turned a 19-10 VCU lead into a 35-21 deficit. The Colonials never looked back.
  • Jonquel Jones led George Washington with 17 points and 17 rebounds, while Megan Nipe provided a game-high 19 points off the bench.
  • George Washington owned a 52-32 advantage on the glass and shot 47 percent (33-of-70) for the game.
  • VCU also received solid contributions from freshman guard Isis Thorpe, who scored 14 points, and sophomore Jessica Pellechio who buried a pair of threes and finished with 10 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The game turned quickly from VCU to George Washington midway through the first period. The Rams used an 8-0 run, capped by back-to-back threes by Robinson and Pellechio, to build a 19-10 lead with 13:17 left in the first.
  • But the next seven minutes belonged to the Colonials. GW staged a 25-2 blitz, sparked by three 3-pointers by Nipe to wrestle away control of the game. VCU went eight minutes between field goals at one stage as George Washington took command.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Parks moved up a number of VCU career lists Thursday. She is now tied for sixth all-time with 18 double-doubles. She also hit five free throws to move up to fourth on the Rams' career list (338) and passed D'Andra Moss for ninth in career rebounds (656).
  • Robinson, meanwhile, is now sixth on the Rams' single-season assist list with 160. She needs two more to move into fourth and seven more for third.
