RICHMOND, Va. – For the third time this season, VCU swept the Atlantic 10 weekly awards as senior Robyn Parks was named Player of the Week and freshman Keira Robinson received Rookie of the Week recognition after helping the Rams to a pair of victories last week.
VCU, off to a 10-1 start for only the third time in program history, is currently riding a school record tying nine-game winning streak after picking up convincing victories over Manhattan and Florida A&M.
The A-10's leading scorer at 22.8 ppg, Parks averaged 27.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals last week, while shooting 61.8 percent (21-of-34) from the field and 85.7 percent (12-of-14) from the free throw line. The Waldorf, Md., native, who registered game-highs in both outings, began the week with 29 points and seven rebounds against Manhattan before adding 25 points on 11-of-15 shooting to go along with nine rebounds and four steals against FAMU.
Robinson, meanwhile, averaged 11.5 points, 8.5 assists, 3.5 steals and 3.0 rebounds last week. She recorded 14 points, eight assists and five steals against Manhattan before contributing nine points, nine assists and two steals against the Rattlers. Robinson, who ranks second in the A-10 averaging 6.1 assists, has tallied at least eight in her last three outings, while averaging 9.3 apg in four home games this year.
VCU returns to action on Dec. 28 when it visits NJIT for a 2 p.m. contest. The Rams then host former Colonial Athletic Association rival Old Dominion Dec. 30 at the Verizon Wireless Arena. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
