RICHMOND, Va. – For the second week in a row, VCU swept the Atlantic 10 Women's Basketball awards as senior Robyn Parks was named the league's Co-Player of the Week and freshman Isis Thorpe earned Rookie of the Week honors. The duo helped lead the Rams to a pair of victories last week, which pushed their overall win streak to five.
Parks, who earned her second straight Player of the Week honor, averaged a double-double with 24.0 points, 11.5 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 2.0 assists, while shooting 17-of-29 (.586) from the field and 13-of-14 (.929) from the charity stripe. She also became the 20th player in school history to score 1,000 career points when she converted a free throw early in the second half of Sunday's win at Wagner. The Waldorf, Md. native began the week with 24 points and eight rebounds at UNCG before adding game-highs of 24 points and 15 boards against the Seahawks.
Thorpe, meanwhile, averaged 17.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals. She scored a career-high 22 points, while shooting 9-of-13 from the floor including 4-of-7 from 3-point range, to go along with five rebounds at UNCG. Thorpe then followed with 13 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals at Wagner.
The Rams, who are off to their best start in five years at 6-1, have posted four straight double-digit road wins, while all six victories this season have come by 10 points or more. VCU currently leads the A-10 in steals (11.9 spg), turnover margin (+6.3), opponent turnovers (22.7), 3-point field goals (8.0/game) and scoring margin (+13.4), while ranking second in the league in scoring (81.7 ppg).
VCU concludes its season-long five-game road swing at UMBC on Dec. 7 before returning to the Verizon Wireless Arena for three straight home games beginning with Cleveland State on Dec. 15.
