NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – VCU junior forward Robyn Parks was named Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday after helping the Rams post back-to-back wins last week.
Parks averaged a double-double with 23.0 points, 11.0 rebounds and 4.0 steals per game in VCU's victories over UMKC and Maine. The Waldorf, Md., native, who entered the 2012-13 season as the Rams' leading returning scorer at just 6.6 ppg, has posted an impressive start to her junior campaign. She currently ranks second in the A-10 in scoring (19.8 ppg) and fifth in rebounding (9.8 rpg), and is the only player in the league to rank among the top five in both categories.
Parks finished with 24 points and 10 rebounds against UMKC on Tuesday before leading all scorers with game-highs of 22 points and 12 boards at Maine on Saturday. She shot 46 percent (16-for-35) from the field and 87 percent (13-for-15) from the free throw line, while also adding a team-best eight steals and one block.
VCU continues its early season road swing with visits to Cleveland State on Wednesday, Nov. 28 before traveling to Florida A&M on Dec. 1. The Rams return to the Verizon Wireless Arena on Dec. 5 to host UMBC. Check VCUAthletics.com for complete game coverage.
