GETTING TO KNOW: ROBYN HOBSON
RICHMOND, Va. – "Getting to Know" is a feature on VCUathletics.com that highlights student-athletes from the 16 intercollegiate athletic programs that make up "Ram Nation." Each addition, VCU Athletic Communications Graduate Assistant Marle van Dessel chats with selected student-athletes from various programs to get inside their world and let us know a little more about them.
This edition of GTK features rising senior Robyn Hobson of the women's basketball team. The Leawood, Kan. native was huge part of the Black & Gold's run to the Round of 16 in the WNIT, starting the final 14 games, while averaging 3.9 points and 1.8 rebounds per game. She was a threat from outside with a team-leading 25 treys on the year.
Already a few weeks into the offseason, Hobson and her teammates are hard at work getting ready for next year. She was nice enough to take a few minutes with van Dessel to give us a little more of an in-depth look at herself.
MVD: Why did you choose VCU?
RH: I choose VCU because when I came on my official visits I fell in love with the team. I also came to VCU for the great academic opportunities they offer.
MVD: What/who inspired you to get involved with basketball?
RH: My dad was and still is my inspiration for basketball...Without him I wouldn't be where I am today.
MVD: If you could any other sport at VCU which one would it be and why?
RH: If I had the choice to play another sport at VCU, I don't think I would.
MVD: What is our favorite thing about VCU?
RH: I love the diversity that VCU gives. Walking around on campus you never know what you're going to see and I love that.
MVD: If you had to describe yourself in one word what would it be and why?
RH: CRAZY. Honestly I don't think there is one word that describes me but if I had to just pick one it would be crazy. I say some crazy things and do some crazy things...Im sure all my teammates would agree but I mean hey, without a little crazy the world would such a boring place :)
MVD: Describe your dream job.
RH: My dream job is to be teacher, because I believe I can change the lives of young people and make the world a better place.
MVD: What is an obstacle in life you've had to overcome?
RH: The greatest obstacle I have had to overcome would be the death of my grandmother, but it has made me such a stronger person!
