RICHMOND, Va. – VCU freshman center Aprill McRae (pictured) earned her second Colonial Athletic Association Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week honor on Monday. It's also the second week in a row a Ram has received the award.
McRae, who averaged 9.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game last week, finished with 12 points and five boards in a win at Georgia State on Thursday. Her 6 for 6 outing against the Panthers marked the first time in nearly nine years a VCU player has shot 100 percent from the field. McRae then followed with six points and five rebounds off the bench against George Mason on Sunday.
The Raleigh, N.C., native, who has appeared in all 28 games with nine starts this season, is contributing 5.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. McRae is also averaging nearly nine points and five boards off the bench in VCU's last four outings.
Classmate Christina Carter earned the CAA's Rookie of the Week award last Monday.
VCU closes out the regular season at Drexel on Feb. 29. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. The Colonial Athletic Association Championship takes place March 8-11 at The Showplace Arena in Upper Marlboro, Md.
