RICHMOND, Va. – VCU freshman guard Christina Carter was named Colonial Athletic Association Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week on Monday after helping the Rams to their second straight regular season sweep of Old Dominion.
Carter averaged 6.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game last week, while providing a 2.5 assist-to-turnover ratio, including a 9.0 mark against the Lady Monarchs. She grabbed a career-high nine rebounds to go along with four points against William & Mary before adding a career-best nine assists (just one turnover) with eight points and a pair of steals at Old Dominion.
The Thomasville, N.C. native has dished out at least four assists in 13 games this season, including four times with six or more. Carter ranks second among CAA freshmen and 12th overall with 3.1 assists per game, while leading all rookies with a 1.0 assist-to-turnover ratio.
VCU continues its two-game road swing at Georgia State on Feb. 23 at 7 p.m. The Rams return to the Verizon Wireless Arena against George Mason on Feb. 26 for their final home game, before closing out the regular season at Drexel on Feb. 29.
