RICHMOND, Va. – VCU donors contributed to the Ram Athletic Fund in record numbers in 2015-16.

RAF members donated a record $3.85 million last year and the department raised $5.04 million in unrestricted and restricted donations. Overall, VCU raised $11.85 million in external revenue, also a new high-water mark for the department. The Ram Athletic Fund successfully achieved 100-percent Department of Athletics participation in its new VCUnited staff giving campaign.
Revenue from the Ram Athletic Fund funds team travel, capital improvements and recruiting budgets as well as scholarships and cost-of-attendance benefits to VCU’s nearly 300 student-athletes.
"Our fans across Ram Nation clearly understand the need to invest in our student-athletes,” said VCU Assoc. VP/Director of Athletics Ed McLaughlin. “Our fans believe in how we win and how we develop these young men and women. This incredible period of competitive and academic success, along with our facility projects that improve the student-athlete experience, only happen because our fans believe in us. VCU Athletics never loses sight of the fact that we win because our fans give."
The 2015-16 campaign marked the fourth consecutive year in which the Ram Athletic Fund topped $3 million in annual unrestricted giving.
"Our entire external staff continues to be awed and inspired by the remarkable generosity of Ram Nation. This generosity by our loyal fans clearly motivated our staff to reach our staff giving goal. We are proud that so many have chosen to invest in VCU Athletics, our student-athletes, and promising future,” said Executive Associate Athletic Director Glenn Hofmann.
In addition to exceeding its RAF goals, VCU Athletics celebrated the opening of its $25 million Basketball Development Center in October. The department also began a comprehensive renovation of its golf practice facility and the construction of lockerrooms for six of its sport programs over the summer.
