The Ram Athletic Fund hosted its annual Black & Gold Golf Classic, presented by VCU Health, on Friday, June 8th at Hunting Hawk Golf Club. The event raised more than $20,000 for the RAF and VCU’s student-athletes.
The tournament, which had 80 golfers participate, was a captain’s choice event. Other competitions throughout the day included longest drive, closest to the pin, a hole in one challenge and a pressure putting contest.
Following the round of golf, a luncheon and awards ceremony was held for the participants and was attended by several members of VCU’s coaching staff and Athletics administration. Prizes were awarded to the first, second and last place teams. The luncheon also included remarks from Ryann Shaughnessy, a rising senior on the Women’s Lacrosse team and the President of VCU’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, who thanked the sponsors and participants and spoke about the impact they will have on the university’s athletics programs.
“We wouldn’t be able to achieve the success we have had without our donors,” Shaughnessy said. “Every team made the A-10 Conference tournament this past year, and with your continued support it can only get better.”
Proceeds from the Black & Gold Golf Classic benefit the Ram Athletic Fund in support of scholarships for student-athletes.
